Introducing "Six Take": The boot edition - Plus Size Daily Outfit

When Anna from Bargain Fatshionista sent me an email inviting me to take part in the newest "Take Five" challenge, I was super excited.  I was even more excited when we realized that there were not five of us participating, but six!  The more the merrier, right?!

The idea behind this challenge is that each Monday each of us will create an outfit based on that week's theme.  I can't wait to see how each of us will come up with different combinations and creations using our own unique style.

The theme for this week is "Boots", so I of course wore my trusty, black, back-lace boots from Avenue.

Outfit Details:
Black Cargo Skinnies - Lane Bryant (these are so comfy!)
Leopard Print Cardi - Fashion Bug (Last time I wore this I said it came from Catherine's, but I realized it came from FB once I looked at the tag!)
Open Knit Sleeve Cardi - Old Navy
Congac Woven Belt - Torrid (similar style in black
Brown Stone Ring - Avenue
Earrings - Charming Charlie
Spike Pendant Necklace - Gorjana via Shopbop (free with a gift card I won)
Hair - Second day waves and out of dry shampoo.  Eeek!

Make sure to check out the other ladies participating in this challenge:

Nicola from 2 Many Cupcakes

Eryn from Bearly on Earth

Meg from Bargainista on a Hunt (She made the fabulous "Six Take" banner at the top of the post!)

Our Annual Chrismas Date - Plus Size Daily Outfit

Jimmy and I have an annual tradition around Christmastime.  It consists of going to see the light display at a historical mill (click here for info) about 40 minutes from where we live, and then going to a little pizza place in a tiny college town close to the mill.  We've been doing it for five Christmases now, and I love it every time.

It was dark by the time we headed out, so I didn't get a great photo, but here's what I wore:
Sorry for the mirror shot.  And don't mind the gift wrap box and paper behind me.  I decided to wrap presents in the bedroom this year.

Outfit Details:
Black Maxi dress (worn as a skirt) - Fashion Bug
Purple Print Wrap Top - Lane Bryant
Denim Jacket - Avenue
Black Boots - Avenue

Our awesome self-taken photo sitting in a booth at the pizza place.

The interior of the pizza place.  It is so cute and folksy.

Here's a shot of the main building at the mill.

Do you have any Christmas traditions?  I'd love to hear about them in the comments!

FYI, I added Disqus to the blog a few days ago, and I am still figuring out all the settings and tricks.  I like that I am able to reply to each comment (and I will try to do so), but please bear with me while I work out the kinks.

Date Night! - Plus Size Daily Outfit

I already filled you guys in on the date Jimmy and I went on this past weekend, so I thought I would share with you what I wore.

Sorry for the blurry photo.  Jimmy took it when we were leaving, and it was already getting dark outside.

Outfit Details:
Purple Dress - Old Navy (This is one of my favorite dresses.  It's so easy to wear and incredibly comfortable.)
Silver Belt - I've had it a few years, and don't remember where it came from.
Denim Jacket - Avenue
Necklace - Fashion Bug (I think?)
Leopard Flats - Old Navy (These are fast becoming my go-to shoes!)
Bag - SimplyBe (won in a blog giveaway)

Just a heads-up, I probably won't be posting any outfits here until the weekend.  I have some posts planned, but I'll be wearing scrubs the rest of the week, so no outfits.  Blech.
I'm counting down the days (6 actual school/clinical days) until next Wednesday, which is my last day of this rotation.  Then I am off until after New Years.
It cannot come soon enough.
I have never, ever cried because of school before this quarter, but last week I had a little breakdown at my kitchen table after getting back an assignment that my instructor said she was disappointed in.  I keep trying and trying to please her, and it seems I can't do anything the way she wants it.  *sigh*
I have a paper and a journal that are due Friday, a four hour clinical today with a long and detailed care plan (28 pages) to do and turn in tomorrow (which means about 3-4 hours of sleep tonight).  Tomorrow, I also have a 12-hour clinical shift (I have to make up the four hour shift that I missed when I had food poisoning), which is going to kick my butt, because it's in the ICU and of course, these people are really sick and need care continuously.  So, I'll get home at about 8pm tomorrow evening, and have to study for a quiz that's set for Friday, which is basically over an entire unit.  Then next Tuesday, I have performance evaluations which are something we do every rotation where we have to take a short quiz, then perform a skill (e.g. inserting an IV) for our instructors to observe, then we have to analyze a made up scenario and decide what sort of problem the patient has and what types of interventions we would do to solve the problem.  Wednesday is the final.  I will be drinking Wednesday night, so if I start drunk tweeting, forgive me.  ; )

Dressing Up Denim - Plus Size Daily Outfit

Whew!  Today was a heck of a day.  I got up at 6:30 to head to school, and on my way my gas indicator light went on.  I swung around to a gas station right before the on-ramp to the freeway, but there was a line for a pump.  I waited a while, but it seemed like no one was moving at all!  I got frustrated and left because my instructor had sent out an email with an emphatic "DO NOT show up late!" message.
I managed to find a parking spot once I arrived at school, but then I couldn't find my phone.  I thought I had dropped it in my backseat when I put my bag back there.  I heard a "Beep!" which means I had a message, so I knew I had the phone in the car somewhere.  I searched between the seats, the floorboards, everywhere!  No phone to be found.  I gave up and scurried into school to meet my friend.  We had planned to meet early to head to the campus bookstore to pick up a packet of printouts required for class.  So we walked all the way across campus to find out the bookstore doesn't open until 8:30.  Our class was at 8.  *sigh*
So we trudge over to the building where our class is scheduled, and find all of our classmates are sitting in the hallway.  Apparently, there is a class taking place in the room where we are supposed to be meeting.  Hmmmmm. . . .
At about 9 with no sign of our instructor, one of the girls goes to the nursing office and has the secretary call the instructor.
Well, guess what?!
She's still sleeping!  And she posted the wrong schedule!
So we really aren't supposed to be meeting until noon.  Noon!  Grrrrr. . . .  not a good start to the day.
Luckily, it got better.
Here's what I wore to hurry up and wait:

Outfit Details:
Teal Camisole - Avenue
Black Maxi Dress - Fashion Bug
Denim Jacket - Avenue
Striped Sparkle Scarf - Fashion Bug
Mixed Metallic Flats - Avenue

Jeggins & Boots - Plus Size Daily Outfit

Friday Jimmy came home early and surprised me with a bouquet of flowers, and told me he would take me anywhere I wanted to go for dinner, and he would let me pick a movie.  When he got home I was wearing yoga pants, had my hair in a ponytail and was sweaty from cleaning the house.  I had to hop in the shower and make a quick decision about what to wear on our date. (BTW, We saw the movie "RED", and it was fantastic!)
So this is what I wore to eat chicken marsala:

Outfit Details:
Knit Jeggings - Lane Bryant
Striped Pocket Tee - Sears
Brown Leather Patch Cardi - Old Navy
Lace Back Boots - Cloudwalkers via eBay
Floral Bib Necklace - Fashion Bug (?)
Earrings - Avenue

My hair is now at that awkward length where one side likes to flip out, and the other flips under.  It's so frustrating.  Does anyone have any tips on how to remedy this annoying phenomenon?

My Teeny-bopper Look - Plus Size Daily Outfit

Today when I walked into class, one of the girls said "You look like a 50's teeny-bopper!"  (Hence the title of this post.)  Another said, "I love coming to class just to see what you're going to wear everyday.  You always look so cute!"  Of course, this just made my day.
So here is my teeny-bopper outfit (and curly hair):

Outfit Details:
Pink Plaid Top: Old Navy
White Cardigan - Fashion Bug
Jeans - Avenue
Sequined Shoes - Converse via 6pm

Archive Outfit - Plus Size Daily Outfit

I was going back through my Picasa albums last night, and found this outfit that I never posted from waaaaaay back in August.  It's still something I could wear now, since the weather is so crazy here.  It is 86 degrees in southeastern Ohio right now.
In October.
I remember getting snow in October not that many years ago! Hello, global warming!

This is my "ghost" picture.  Maybe I should have saved it for Halloween. . .

Outfit Details:
Black tee - Lane Bryant
Black & Grey striped vest - Torrid
Distressed jeans - Avenue
(These are the baggiest, saggiest, longest jeans I have ever worn.  I can barely keep them up after wearing them for about an hour!)
Snakeskin print sandals - Fashion Bug
Bracelet (that you can barely see) - Avenue

As you can see, I have been playing with Picnik lately.
What kind of editing application/program do you use for your photos?
I've just started using the Picnik application, and I'm liking it so far, but I don't really know much about it yet.  Anyone have any tips or tricks for me?

Going Green

Today was my first day back at school after summer break.  I'm in the pediatrics rotation, and my instructor seems very laid-back, which is always a good thing.  I got to school at 7:30 to meet my friend Stacee, even though we didn't have class until 10am.  It's always so crazy to try to find a place to park the first day of the Fall quarter.  We just went to the Starbucks on campus and got something to drink and chatted until it was time to walk to class.
This evening I went out to dinner with my sister, mom, great-aunt,cousin, and her son.  It was a nice girls-night (well, except for my cousin's son).  My cousin lives two streets away from me, so we stopped at my house to pick up Trixie, and then went back to her house.
My sister and my crazy dog (and Barney on the tv in the background!).

Outfit Details:
Grey Striped Pocket Tee - Sears (Canyon River Blues brand)
Green & Black Cardi - Old Navy
Distressed Jeans - Avenue

Black Snakeskin Flats - Thrifted
Multi-strand necklace - Fashion Bug
Huge Blingy Ring - Torrid
Bracelet - Tiffany & Co.
Square Rhinestone Earrings - Avenue

How cute is my sister? : )

Outfit of theDate Night!

This week was "Restaurant Week" in my city (I'm sure other places do this too), which means that a group of restaurants put together select menus and all charge the same price for a meal.  Tonight we went to a steakhouse that specializes in wood fired steaks.  We had never been there before, and figured why not try it when it's a little cheaper than normal?  The menu included a soup or salad, an entree, and a dessert for a set price.  The steaks were amazing.  Everything else was only so-so, but I've never tasted a steak quite like the one I had tonight.  Yum!
I had planned to wear my new dress that I bought last Friday at the outlet mall, but at the last minute realized that I couldn't find my flash tape.  This dress definitely needs flash tape, I promise.  So I had to do a quick change and grab another dress to put on.  Here's what I ended up wearing:
This belt just kept moving around on me and drove me nuts! These shoes actually have a little bit of a kitten heel, but you can't really tell in the photos.
Here it is without the jacket.
Outfit Details:
Grey Lace Cami: Old Navy
Purple Dress: Old Navy
Black Tuxedo Jacket: Torrid  (isn't the lining pretty?)
Grey Suede Kitten Heels: Target
Black Belt: Torrid
Floral Necklace: Fashion Bug

Tomorrow Jimmy and I are planning on doing a bunch of stuff around the house, and a friend is coming over to help us with some landscaping for our yard.
What do you have planned for the weekend?

Jimmy and I went to lunch at our favorite Mexican place today, and they burned both of our lunches! They replaced Jimmy's right away, but mine took awhile so I ended taking it to go. Eh, it happens.

Here's what I wore to eat a burnt quesadilla:
It was windy today!

How cute are these details? I love the buttons.

Outfit Details:
White Dress: Fashion Bug

Daily Outfit

I received my Fashion to Figure order the other day, and thought I should break out my new duds! I ordered the nautical bolero from last Tuesday's post, and a crochet back shrug. I wore the shrug today with my new black maxi dress from Fashion Bug. It was super comfy and cute (comfy being key as I had a 9am-4pm class today).

Jimmy thought it would be funny to get the dog in the background of my picture doing her "business". This is my "No, Honey!" pose.Outfit Details:
Black Maxi Dress: Fashion Bug ( I think I got the last one or something. It was the last one in the store, and I don't even see it online.)
Lace top camisole: Lane Bryant
Cream crochet back shrug: Fashion to Figure
Silver gladiators: Torrid
Awesome dangly earrings: Forever 21

I hope everyone else had a great day! Are you rocking the maxi trend? Do you love it/hate it?

Outfit Details:

Taupe Cardigan: Torrid
Jeans: Avenue
